However, Belurat Gaol is a gaol nonetheless, and it doesn't advertise sunny beaches and moonlit strolls within its ceramic prisons. By the time you reach the end of this gaol's reaches, you'll be crying to go home. Thankfully, this guide might make the experience a little more palatable.

Everything You Need To Know About Belurat Gaol

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (2)

Belurat Gaol is located upstream (to the west) from the lake in the Gravesite Plain. It is the same lake where the Ghostflame Dragon can be found. You'll find the cave entrance tucked into the cliffside. On the map, it should be at the point where the water diverges into the Belurat Tower Settlement borders.

As you enter this dungeon, be warned that it is unlike any other dungeons in the base game. It is far lengthier.

Due to its length and lack of shortcuts, you might want to make these preparations:

  • Have alternative methods of healing such as the Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (4)Taker's Cameo , Warming Stone , Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (5)Assassin's Crimson Dagger , or the Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (6)Heal Spell (or other such related spells).
  • Use any and all runes via level ups and weapon upgrades before entering, if applicable.
  • Take weapons with skills or weapon arts that have low FP cost (or be sparing in their usage).
  • Have access to either Magic-reduction items or a faster weapon that can reliably stagger opponents.

This dungeon takes approximately 10-25 minutes to complete and has one platforming section at its midway point.

Descending Into The Depths

As you enter the gaol for the first time, your first enemy will be found just after you enter the main chamber. They will attack from behind the stack of crates to your left. Dealing with them, follow the main path downward to the first of many traps. The stairs will fall out beneath you at the end of the path, dropping you into a wide area with several weak enemies.

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (7)

Go through the door in the cave wall, but beware the hidden enemy behind the rocks on the right. A Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (8)Silver Horn Tender can be found in here.

Afterward, venture across the natural land bridge and along the main path filled with weak enemies.

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (9)

There's nothing of note in the area besides any Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (10)Frozen Maggot you might find, so in the room filled with pots, look at the hole in the wall to the right.

Jump through it into the room below. Through the door on the far side, there's a dining area of sorts with weak enemies inside.

There is an item in here, but it is only a Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (11)Broken Rune . It is better to ignore it, as the enemies will not attack until you pick it up.

The door nearby leads to a ledge, but before you continue onward, detour slightly to the right to grab the Thawfrost Boluses hidden behind the crates. Continuing onward, enter the hanging jar chamber and circle the space to the door on the other side.

Remain wary of the two shades sitting on the ledge here.

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (13)

Enter this door, and you'll see an item across the way. Do not yet pick it up. Instead, look to your left to see a pot on the ground. Inside is a new type of enemy: Jar Innards.

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (14)

These enemies are extremely bulky with three main attacks:

  • Fury Swipes - Swipes two-to-four times in a flurry of attacks.
  • Intestinal Grab - Shoots out a long intestinal-looking arm from the creature's gut. If struck, the player is grabbed by the creature and takes large amounts of damage.
  • Flesh Expulsion - Releases an explosion of fleshy bits in a circle around the creature. Indicated by a visible charging.

Attack it furiously as it climbs out of the jar and then grab the Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (15)Shadow Realm Rune [3] nearby.

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (16)

Returning to the jar room, descend the pots over the ledge in front of the door you just exited from. This is a platforming section where you'll navigate downward along the jars. The chains make it a little trickier than usual, but there are no enemies or gimmicks to worry about until the bottom.

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (17)

As you reach the second-to-last jar, pause and look down at the jar on the ground. This is not a fake jar. The living jar enemy will throw you off as you fall onto it, so rather than fall prey, descend with a jumping attack on its head. There are a few more tiny jar enemies in the area, so dispose of them before moving onward toward the nearby door.

Before exiting, however, there are two Jar Innard enemies that will crawl out of sideways jars. Kill them before moving on.

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (18)

Outside the door, there is a Jar Innard on your right. Don't let it get the better of you. You can now jump over the ledge onto the bridge where there is a new variation of the Jar Innards. These Jar Innards are wearing jars still, and they'll leap toward you, smashing the jar on impact. To deal with them:

  • Break the jars with a strong Strike attack or,
  • Allow them to break their own jars, dodging backwards just as they land.

Defeat all enemies before proceeding to the next trap: another set of falling stairs. Once you fall, you'll be trapped in the bowels of the gaol in the Jar Pit.

You cannot jump over the falling stairs into the following section by any normal means and are not meant to.

How To Escape The Jar Pit

The Jar Pit is a maze of large jars with several items to be discovered as well as enemies. Inside this area, you can find - and are not limited to - the following items:

However, your main objective is to escape through a door in the wall.

To reach this exit, you do not have to climb any jars or fallen debris. These methods are only for those who wish to find the many items in the area.

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (21)

Follow the main path, taking no turns down other paths, until you find a pair of shades traveling together. The door should be located a small ways behind them. Through the door, there's an area with a large living jar to your right. Defeat it, the nearby shade, and the two small jars before you progress over the gap ahead.

There is a Jar Innard hiding in the first jar on the left. It will explode only as you near.

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (22)

Two more Jar Innards wearing jars will approach and begin combat as well. Only when all three are defeated will you be able to progress. There is a hanging jar on the far ledge. Jump onto it and then onto the pillars ahead before descending toward the boss fog wall.

How To Defeat Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (23)

The Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze is a very small but quick boss that can inflict Frostbite. He uses magical means of damage, and he has both the ability to:

  • Parry and Riposte
  • Bloodhound's Step (in essence)

This slippery fella can deal whopping damage if you allow him to get any attack off thanks to his insane speed.

Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (24)

Thankfully, there is one thing that he is cripplingly weak to: poise damage. Swordmaster Onze's poise is laughably weak, meaning he staggers to even a pair of daggers. Be aggressive, dodge through his speedy attacks, and you'll eventually come out with the Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Belurat Gaol Dungeon Guide (25)Demi-Human Swordsman Yosh Spirit Ash.
